Training

There has been compelling research in recent years (“Early Years Study – Final Report” 1999) which clearly identifies the importance of the first six years, particularly the first three years of a child’s life. These early years are key in the development of a child’s life and set the foundation for competence and coping skills that affect the child’s learning, behaviour and health throughout life.

As a home child care practitioner, you play a pivotal role in the child’s early life alongside his/her parents. Research has shown there are factors which contribute to the provision of a higher quality of home child care.

One predictor of the quality of care provided is the caregiver’s involvement in training and networking. ASCY offers a range of educational/training opportunities for child care and home child care practitioners. In addition, there are training workshops specific to family home child care such as:

  • Starting Out in Home Child Care
  • Making Quality Happen in Family Home Child Care
  • First Impressions Count!
  • Family Child Care Training Program – Levels One, Two and Three
