Testing Hints for DPOAE
- Swaddle baby and position on side for best access to ear
- Best to test 24 hours after birth to prevent false positive due to vernix
- If infant fails, retest once more before 6-week period
- Testing can be completed while baby is nursing or feeding
- If infant is fussy or crying, offer pacifier
Troubleshooting Hints for DPOAE
- Conduct a visual inspection of the probe before each use
- Clean the probe if debris is noted
- remove probe tip
- remove microphone
- remove clear tubing from probe body
- thread cleaning wire through all 3 metal tubes on probe body until the tubes are clear of debris
- if probe tip is clogged, use a new probe tip
Error Messages for DPOAE
PROBE IN EAR? REFIT AND RETRY OR OCCULED PROBE
- clean probe
- verify a secure connection of all cables, tubing and mirophone
- verify that no pins are bent or broken on the round end of the probe cable connector
- verify that there is no damage to the round probe connection on the AuDX box
- verify that the clear tubing has no holes, tears or condensation, replace if necessary
- retest baby - if error continues, contact the Infant Hearing Program @ 905-385-7927 ext 227.
TOO NOISY/HIGH ARTIFACTS
- remove probe from ear
- verify proper use of probe tip (size) for baby's ear
- re-insert probe into baby's ear, ensuring a secure seal
- verify a quiet testing environment, including a quiet baby
